From the Pastor

Dear Members and Friends of Lakeland BPC,

This past week we had a member go home to be with the Lord.  It was very unexpected.  Mr. Jarvis had had a pace maker put in on  Friday.  He went home on Saturday.  He was more alert and talkative than he had been in months.  He did have to go back to the hospital on Saturday evening because of some problems but were not thought to be serious.  The Labor day holiday caused some delay in testing but he was resting comfortably on Tuesday when I saw him.  I received a call on Wednesday morning saying that he had had a massive heart attack.  I went to the hospital expecting to see someone who was out of it.  When I got there he was sitting up, alert and talking with doctors, nurses and family members.  The doctors told us that there was nothing else to be done.  The end was near but they would not say how near.  He refused heroic measures to "extend" his life.  He spent the day with his family talking.  His son Jim was in Georgia at the time.  He got on his way and was able to spend a couple of hours alone with his father as the other members went to get something to eat.  Later in the evening most of the family left thinking that he would be there in the morning.  At about 11:00 after speaking with his daughter-in-law, he  laid back his head and was gone.  The Lord graciously allowed the family time together for that last day.  Yes there is a great loss even at 79,  Yes there is much sorrow, but not as those that have no hope.

There are a couple of things that I would like for us as members one of another to remember.  We know not our time.  Let us be busy doing the important things.  Let us keep our accounts short with both God and man.  We need to make our calling and election sure.  Salvation is of the Lord.  We have the duty and responsibility to trust Christ alone for our salvation.  Let us seek to remember those in sorrow in our prayers.  Let us seek to try to comfort those in sorrow with our kindnesses and remembrances.  Let us weep with those that weep as well as rejoicing with those that rejoice.
